Mount Elgon Tree Growing Enterprise (METGE) convened a community engagement meeting in Bukiende Sub-county, Mbale District to celebrate the election of Deborah Nabulobi as the Sub-county Councilor representing Bumaena Parish following the Uganda 2026 General Elections.
During the engagement, METGE warmly congratulated Deborah on her achievement and reflected with community members on the progress made through the Gender and Climate Justice Programme implemented with support from Size of Wales and the Welsh Government

The programme focuses on strengthening women’s voices in climate action and promoting their meaningful participation in local governance and decision-making processes.
Deborah’s victory marks a significant milestone for women’s leadership and inclusive governance at the grassroots level.
Through this initiative, women in Bumaena Parish have been equipped with leadership skills, knowledge, and confidence to actively engage in community affairs, advocate for sustainable development, and influence policies that affect their livelihoods and environment. Deborah’s election stands as clear evidence of the long-term impact of sustained investment in gender equality and climate justice.
In recognition of her outstanding commitment to climate change action and women’s empowerment, Deborah was invited to Wales in March 2025 to participate in International Women’s Day celebrations, an opportunity that further amplified her leadership experience and global exposure.
Beyond her newly elected role, Deborah serves as the NRM Women’s League Chairperson for Bumaena Village and Parish, and as Secretary of the Bumaena Tsotsowana CLA Savings and Loans Association. These roles highlight her consistent dedication to community development and women’s economic empowerment.
